The PhD program in Digital Humanities at the University of Genoa, in collaboration with the University of Turin, aims to enhance the convergence between the humanities and technology. Characterized by the collaborative spirit typical of the Digital Humanities (DH), the program brings together humanities and computer science departments from both universities, creating a stimulating and creative environment where theoretical transdisciplinarity and digital practice train scholars not only to master digital tools for humanities research but also to reconfigure objects of study based on the technologies and languages through which they are communicated.
During the three-year training program, PhD students (through seminars, workshops, and conference participation) develop critical thinking about the application of technologies to art and culture; linguistic, literary, and onomastic research; the development of multimedia and web-based products; the design of immersive and multimedia systems for the enjoyment of art, languages, and culture; the use of technology in teaching and the analysis of learning and engagement paradigms; and the use of digital tools and environments for scientific research and dissemination.
In addition to actively and collaboratively participating in the above-mentioned activities, PhD students are expected to personally contribute to the dissemination of the program’s research activities by regularly updating the website, blog, and social media channels of the university, in the spirit of collaboration and idea exchange that defines the Digital Humanities landscape. In the same spirit, and with the drive toward internationalization that has distinguished the program since its inception, PhD students are encouraged to undertake a period of study abroad at laboratories, research centers, and partner universities affiliated with the Universities of Genoa and Turin.
